IFÁ SAYS: “The malevolent spirits are not always the ones inflicting suffering on us; in many cases, it is our involvement with taboos (eewo) that invites the burdens of life”
In other words, most times it is our involvement with taboos that causes spiritual stagnation, disease, loss, contention, rather than the influence of malevolent spirits.
Take, for instance, if certain food is your taboo, it means that eating such food could negatively impact your health. If your health is bad, it will be difficult to carry on with your divine duties due to the pains that accompany illness, because your mind will be fixed on how to get out of the ugly situation first before you can think of continuing your divine duties. That’s why it is not advisable to engage in eewo because when the consequences start, not all will be able to survive it.
