IFÁ SAYS, “IF YOU DO NOT WORK ON YOUR INNER EYE, YOU WILL ALWAYS MISPLACE PRIORITIES
~ ÈJÌOGBÈ[First Chapter of IFÁ]
As a spiritual being your priority should be ORÍ, which means all your attention and focus should be on manifesting the will of Ori daily through your earthly duty, afterall this is the reason why you are here. However, ifa says that, “if the inner eye is not in good condition, the bearer is bound to misplace priorities”, which means, because of the influence of this material realm, one is bound to give more attention to illusions than ORÍ itself.
A man’s inner eye is his eye of understanding, if it is not in good condition, such person will not be able to make healthy choices, and will always misplace priorities.
Just like what happened to Olokun in the book of Ejiogbe, when he refused to work on his inner eye inspite of the warnings that ifa gave him.
In this verse, Olokun’s whole attention was on material wealth, he wanted to acquire more wealth for himself, so he called on his priest to consult his oracle in order to know what type of sacrifice was needed for him to achieve his desires. But to his surprise, ifa told him to move his focus away from acquiring material wealth, and get his inner eye fixed first. Ifa assured him that once this is fixed, every other things will fall in place.
But Olokun was not comfortable with the message from the oracle. He called on other priests to consult for him, they performed divination and told Olokun to marry more wives and birth more children, they assured him that he would become richer materially once he marry more wives and have more children.
So Olokun listened to the last priests and took their counsels to heart. He married more wives and birthed more children. After sometime Olokun realized that he was not peaceful within himself inspite of all his material wealth. It got to a point where he started having eyes problems but his wealth couldn’t fix it.
He then realized that he had truly misplaced priority.
Olokun remembered the priest that told him to work on his inner eye and he ordered his guards to go bring him to the palace. The name of the priest was “Òṣùmàrè Ẹgọ”, the guards found him and brought him to Olokun. Olokun apologized to him by admitting his ignorance, and he helped Olokun to fix his inner eyes.
From the above story one can tell that the inner eyes of humans is their eyes of understanding, and if it is not in a good condition, priorities will be misplaced and this will attract suffering. One way to enrich the inner eyes is to pay less attention to materialism and start to increase your love for ORÍ. When you increase your love for ORÍ, your eyes of understandings will be activated naturally and you will begin to receive enlightenment.
